In 1996, Ian Morrison was busy performing as Alice the housekeeper in the live show, “The Not-So Brady Bunch.”  On the night of the show’s closing, Ian donned his Alice costume for the last time, and brought the “Brady” cast to go see the drag contest at the 12th Air Command. Ian was pulled out of the audience by the host, Tinsel Garland, who asked Ian to perform-and right there Brittany Lynn was born.
Within the same month, Brittany Lynn had her own show at 12th Air, then joined the original cast of the newly formed Bob & Barbara’s Show, and later went on to host pageants and shows with Tinsel Garland’s friend and replacement, Sandy Beach.
Sandy took Brittany to Atlantic City’s famous Studio Six nightclub and resort, who welcomed her with open arms and gave her own show-Atlantic City Weekly named her, “Casinoville’s favorite drag queen”, and her show at Studio was listed multiple times in the “Top 7 Things to Do in A.C.”-especially after winner the coveted Miss’D America Crown in 2004.
In 1998, Brittany was hired by DennioProductions as a permanent performer and host at Shampoo Nightclub-her First Friday’s Drag Mafia show remains a part of drag history as Philadelphia’s most attended drag show EVER and lasted close to a decade.
In 2000, Brittany’s Drag Mafia joined Shade Productions with Justin Bruno, Miss Rose, and club legend Phoenixx, which led to Drag Mafia becoming a preferred talent for club industries in both gay and straight clubs from Philly to New York and beyond-as well as being listed with Traxx Central Booking, one of New York’s top booking agencies. (Now known as CEG Central Entertainment Group.)
The Drag Mafia along with Shade Productions worked at such legendary venues as Nation D.C., the Renegade in Rehoboth, Limelight/Avalon as a part of Kurfew, Hunka Bunka, Silo & Exit in NYC, 2-4/Pure & Woody’s in Philly-the list goes on and on.
Weekly performances by Drag Mafia were seen at major circuit events (many through Dan Contarino) with Marc Berkeley and John Blair-along with icons Ladu Bunny, Ru Paul, Kevin Aviance, King of Queens Anthony Lamont- track artists Kim English, Anastasia, Vanessa del Sol, Abigail, Thea Austin of Snap, Vernessa Mitchell, Aimiee, Veronica Velasquez- legendary dj/producers Eddie Baez, Razor & Guido, Sal Parm, Robby Tronco, Thunderpuss, Gordon John of Uk, Keoki, Lady Miss Kier, Dj Michelle, Victor Calderone, Armand Van Helden, and Jason Ojeda of Mindtrap-along with Philly favorites Carl Michaels, Reenie Kane, Johnny Vicious, David Petrilla, Michael DeCero, and Zathan Radix-and the list continues to grow.
Why did Brittany perform the Drag Mafia?  “When I entered the drag scene in Philly, most of the shows were competitions (Cartwheel, 12th Air, Collesseum, Key West)-the other nights when club owners wanted entertainment, the girls were changing in bathrooms still open for customers and working for drink tickets and/or little to no pay. There was an attitude that drag queens were the gay court jesters, and not taken seriously as working professionals. I used my marketing background to create a brand with the most talented group of performers I knew, and then presented myself and my girls to clubs and event promoters as the Drag Mafia. Those who hired us knew they were getting the best, as well as a professional show- we showed up on time and entertained the masses at whatever venue we were assigned to- and my girls knew they would be compensated for their time and efforts. Dressing rooms, drinks, coins, the roar of the crowds, and respect-because with the Drag Mafia-it’s all about respect…and family…
